Return to Paddle COVID-19 Safety Plan.
Hello Members,
I hope you are all keeping safe, well and fit. This has been a difficult time for us all.
I want to keep you in the loop as far as our return to paddling is concerned. The Return To Paddling Covid 19 Safety Plan has been approved by DBNSW. Our hope at this time is to be on the water on Saturday 5th September. YAY!
A copy of the Plan is attached if you feel like reading through it all but I want to give you a run down on your responsibilities. It is all common sense and about keeping ourselves and others safe.
1. No one has to return to paddling if they do not feel safe or able to do so. As there can be no physical contact, no one can be assisted in or out of the boat. This means you will need to carry your own paddle and drink bottle on and off the boat and the strokes will not be able to lend a hand as they often do.
2. Only financial members can paddle.
3. You must not come to training if you have a sore throat, cough or runny nose. You must not come to training if you have COVID-19 or have been in direct contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the previous 14 days, if you have flu-like symptoms or are a high health risk (e.g. due to age or pre-existing health conditions) or if you have travelled internationally in the previous 14 days.
4. DBNSW motto is “Get in, Train, Get out”. No hanging around before or after paddling. You will be asked to hand sanitise before signing the official attendance sheet (records sent to DBNSW) and then to move away from the cage.
5. The sweep and coach will ask a limited number of people, maximum 6, to help get the boat out of the cage and walk it down to the ramp. Others must walk down keeping social distancing. These will be the same people who take the boat out of the water and clean it. Boats and trolleys are to be thoroughly cleaned with disinfectant after each session.
6. DBNSW has asked that everyone shower before attending training and advise you do so afterwards as well. Also that you launder your uniform after every training. Training will only be held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings at this stage. You must put your name on the website before 10am on Wednesday and before 5pm on Friday for Saturday paddle. Please do not repeat your name every week. We need to allow everyone to have the chance to train. Sweeps and coaches please put your role on the website.
7. Only 20 people are allowed on the boat. This includes the sweep and coach. This means that less paddlers will be able to attend each training. There will only be one boat each training session.
8. There is to be no physical contact between members - no handshakes, no slapping on the back, no high fives etc.
9. The club will provide hand sanitiser which must be used before and after each session, and masks if members feel the need for them.
10. Members are not to share personal equipment. Please bring your own drink bottle and paddle as usual, insect repellent and sunscreen if you require these. Only keys to be left at the cage and they must be in a zip lock bag. No other personal items to be left at the cage. Only the sweep, his/her designated helper and Covid 19 Officer will be allowed to enter the cage.
11. If you need to administer first aid to another member you must wear a mask and gloves.
12. A range of COVID-19 mental health and wellbeing counselling services is available online and via telephone including Beyond Blue (website or phone 1800 512 348); the NSW government website (COVID 19 page) or Mental Health Line phone 1800 011 511; and the Australian government Department of Health website.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. I will be available before and after all trainings.
